What the models in a spec are being asked to do.

One task per spec, not one per model: every model in a spec shares a data pipeline, and masks and bounding boxes are not the same pipeline. It decides the type of data and of every entry in models, which is why it is a discriminator rather than a setting - a detection spec holding a colormap is not a spec with an odd field in it, it is two different intentions in one file.
